HISTORY

Spelunker (c) 1986 Irem Corp.


In Spelunker - che significa "esploratore di caverne" - un esploratore deve aprirsi la strada per un numero di caverne a scorrimento multdirezionale - ognuna piú in profonditá della precedente - nel suo tentativo di trovare il mitico "Mondo delle Meraviglie". Per fare ció, l'esploratore deve trovare l'uscita di ogni caverna in modo da poter avanzare a quella successiva e avvicinarsi al suo obiettivo.


Spelunker é un gioco a piattaforme e ogni pericolosa caverna é piena di nemici - come pipistrelli e ogre - e trappole. Scale, corde, ascensori e gli obbligatori carrelli da miniera devono essere utilizzati per raggiungere altre piattaforme e sezioni della caverna.


Per aiutarlo nella sua difficile missione, lo Spelunker porta un'arma e puó sparare palle di fuoco a corto raggio ai suoi nemici per stordirli o ucciderli. Si possono anche raccogliere numerosi offetti bonus, come bombe per distruggere qualsiasi roccia blocchi il cammino, chiavi per aprire porte chiuse e pozioni per ricaricare la barra di energia in costante diminuzione dell'esploratore. Sparsi per ogni caverna ci sono anche scrigni del tesoro che possono essere aperti per ottenere tesori bonus.

NOTES:

- I believe that both kungfum bootlegs are derived from an Irem original which we don't have (prototype/early revision?). They say "kanfu master" instead of "kung-fu master" on the introduction screen, the only original doing that is spartanx but the ROMs don't match after the copyright notice.

- Battle Bird (1985 - Not Dumped): This game is on IREM's M64 platform which is a two tiered boardset. Battle Bird is believed to have a limited release. Two pictures of the PCB set appeared on the internet as well as showing two screen shots. The picture of the board showed a genuine IREM License Seal PCB 1037 sticker and Serial # 353887. Top board: M64-S-A Looks to contain Nec D780C, Yamaha YM2149 & YM2151 + 2 roms. Bottom board: M64-A-C Mostly out of the picture, so no additional info.


Bugs:

- kidniki, horizon: Missing the drums. There is an analog section in the sound board. Source (ID 02490)

- splunkr, spleunk2: Use analog drums in the music just like Kid-Niki. Stefan Lindberg (ID 00183)

- 0.143u2: Amplified M62 default contrast, this fixes washed out colors [hap].

- 0.140u2: Removed includes\iremz80.h. Added includes\m62.h and audio\irem.h. Atari Ace take some driver_device classes of m52/m57/m58/m62/travrusa (common code in audio\irem.c) that cover multiple drivers and split them so that each driver gets their own driver_device class. In most cases, these drivers got entangled because of audio/mcu code that was shared between multiple drivers. Added 'Irem Audio' sound.

- 0.135u1: Added includes\iremz80.h. Removed includes\m62.h. Fabio Priuli added driver data struct and save state support to M62 driver.

- 0.133u1: Improved Irem sound [Couriersud]: Revisited schematics. Corrected a bug, some discrete values and added two RC nodes from schematics.
